Budget Monitor Light Bars (and How to Avoid Glare)

A monitor light bar sits on top of your screen and lights your desk without taking up any desk space, which makes it great for small rooms. The most common complaint is glare, so we'll cover that first.
Why some light bars cause glare
- Look for asymmetric optics. Good bars aim the light forward and down onto the desk instead of straight down onto the screen. How-To Geek tested BenQ's asymmetric ScreenBar Pro on several monitors and saw no glare on any of them (How-To Geek).
- Visible LEDs and short reach. One verified Amazon owner of the Quntis RGB Pro+ said the LEDs aren't frosted, so individual dots can show at some angles, and that more forward projection would lower the risk of glare (Amazon review).
- Try adjusting first: if your bar rotates, tilt the light toward the desk and lower the brightness before giving up on it.
Budget pick: Quntis RGB Pro+
- Why: Tom's Guide tested it and said it cast "a nice, even glow over my entire desk," and liked that a wireless remote is included (Tom's Guide).
- Specs (listing): about 20" long; 3000–6500K; stepless dimming; remote; RGB backlight; weighted clip for flat and curved monitors; USB-C powered (Amazon).
- Owner downsides: some Amazon reviewers say the remote can be slow to respond and it uses disposable batteries.
Alternative: Xiaomi Mi Computer Monitor Light Bar
- Why: TechFinitive used it and praised its build and the wireless rotary remote, saying "for most people's needs, it's hard to argue with the value" (TechFinitive).
- Specs (TechFinitive): 2700–6500K color temperature, wireless controller. Xiaomi doesn't publish a brightness figure.
- Downside: TechFinitive found the remote felt less premium than the bar.
If you can spend more
How-To Geek found the BenQ ScreenBar Pro bright, focused and glare-free, but noted a good case that it's overpriced compared with other bars (How-To Geek).
