Minimalism in a small room is mostly about getting things off the desk: the screen up, cables under, light overhead. Here's how, using only no-drill gear. (Starting from scratch? Read the small-room desk setup guide first.)

1. Clear the desk first

Wirecutter's advice: take off the desk every accessory (and its cable) you don't use regularly, then bundle the cords that are left (Wirecutter).

2. Lift the screen

The Amazon Basics Adjustable Monitor Riser (Wirecutter's top stand pick) leaves space underneath to hide a keyboard or notebooks (Wirecutter). If you want the screen to float, an arm frees even more space; see arm vs riser.

3. Hide the cables

Put the power strip and chargers in a clamp-on tray like the Univivi, which an r/desksetup owner recommended (r/desksetup). Bundle what's left with Velcro One-Wrap ties, a Wirecutter staff favorite (Wirecutter), or a Bluelounge Soba sleeve (Wirecutter).

4. Light without a lamp

A monitor light bar adds no clutter at all. The Quntis RGB Pro+ got a good hands-on review from Tom's Guide (Tom's Guide). For a cleaner look, turn its RGB backlight off.
